A small business, CARS (Cosmetic Automotive Renewal Services), has made a big difference on the southwest corner of Birmingham Road and Missouri 291 Highway, clearing a site that for years had been overgrown and littered with debris, including an old river barge, school bus and even a kitchen sink.

“It’s fantastic,” Public Works Director Steve Hansen said. “It’s great to see it cleaned up after all these years.”

Sean Prideaux of CARS said it was not a short-term venture.

“It took us a year to get it all cleaned up,” he said.

His wife, Erin Prideaux, said they opened Sept. 24, 2008, which was also the couple’s anniversary.

The fact that the site was transformed isn’t too surprising as cleaning up is nothing new for the Prideauxs, who wanted to locate in Liberty and were able to after a friend, David Wison, purchased the property and leased it to them at a reasonable rate.

“It’s my passion,” Sean Prideaux said of work with vehicles. “I like to make cars look new again.”

He said more than once when people have brought their cars in for detailing in preparation to be sold, they have changed their minds and decided to keep their cars after seeing the end result.

Sean Prideaux also sells a small inventory of vehicles at CARS that carry a one-year guarantee and said that aspect of the business had been going well.

“I buy my cars from individuals, I’m very particular,” he said. “I like to say I’m a detail shop first so the cars I put out are a cut above to begin with. I then take them to the next level and make sure they are really nice.”

CARS also provides paintless dent removal and can touch up scratches and other minor imperfections, including on plastic pieces of a vehicle.

He noted that one of the times people can use this service and realize significant savings is as leases are about to expire. He said the paintless dent removal can come in handy following hail storms.

CARS is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Great Improvement
written by Johnson, January 22, 2009
I had been watching this place being cleaned up over the last year. Glad to see it finally cleaned up. What an eye sore to drive by 2 times a day.

Nice, friendly people. He did a great job on a dent while I waited. Couldn't even tell it had been there.
