Call it the gift of mobility. More people can take to the streets, sidewalks and trails of the community with the recent donation by the Liberty Sertoma Club of close to 18 bicycles to clients of Love INC and In As Much Ministries. The bike distribution for children, teens and adults took place Saturday, May 30. “We hope to be able to do this several times a year,” Darin Miles, Liberty Sertoma Club president, said. The group received bicycles from the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, the community and Sertoma Club members. The Clay County Health Department provided bicycle helmets. Sertoma members cleaned and fixed the bikes, receiving assistance from Biscari Brothers Bicycles in Liberty on the more complex repairs. “Every one of the bikes needed something done,” Miles said. Margie Lemmon, a Sertoma member who helped clean the bicycles said it was the first time she had done something like this but hoped to be able to do it again. THREE MORE BIKES NEEDED Two small bikes and one man’s bike are still needed to complete the recent bicycle distribution. Anyone with a bike to donate of either type can contact Darin Miles, Liberty Sertoma, 781-1288.
