Missouri Department of Transportation maintenance crews in the Northland will chip seal Missouri Route H in Clay County between Liberty and Excelsior Springs beginning Wednesday, June 17, weather permitting. Crews will begin work at 6:30 a.m. at the city limits of Liberty and work to Route EE on the first day. Work on the 12-mile stretch is expected to be completed by Monday, June 22. While the highway will remain open, motorists using these routes should expect delays during operations. MoDOT will provide flaggers to minimize traffic delays. Chip sealing is a preventative maintenance to rejuvenate the state roadways by preserving the current condition. Crews place a thin layer of rock chips and oil atop the road surface. This seals and protects the surface, prolonging the life of the pavement. It also improves friction between vehicle tires and the driving surface to increase traction during poor driving conditions.
