Melvin “Bud” Wackerle Jr. of Liberty is still in the saddle as he travels with “Best of America by Horseback” in its Mexico to Canada Trailride on Horseback Adventure. The trail riders entered Colorado on June 6, with riders participating from 34 states and from as far away as Australia and England.

According to a press release, they have traveled more than 650 miles since starting the ride in mid-April in Santa Teresa, N.M., on the Mexican border and are about to attain the 100,000 cumulative trail riding miles ridden by all its riders since the beginning of the popular trail riding series.

The ride is currently on RFD-TV network, available on DISH Channel 231 and DirecTV Channel 345, as well as many cable channels.

This milestone was achieved in the Smile High City of La Junta, Colo., on Friday, June 12. The arrival included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with city officials at Tiger Field.

Led by outdoorsman and trailmaster Tom Seay of Culpeper, Va., the ride has been and will be involved in a host of local town, village and city activities all along the trail, which will include an escort by the Canadian Mounties when they reach Saskatchewan, Canada, on Saturday, Sept. 5.

Mark Laney of Plainview, Texas, chief executive officer of the television show “Best of America by Horseback,” said while riding with the group, “We are a little traveling town of people from all walks of life and varying backgrounds, ranging in age from their 40s to folks in their 70s and 80s. We just could not have asked for a better group of people to ride with us and share this historical journey. It is truly an experience and an adventure of a lifetime.”

The ride is being filmed for an upcoming series of television shows.

The trail route, progress of the ride, as well as information for riders who wish to join this adventure between now and early September, can be found on the show’s Web site www.bestofamericabyhorseback.com.
