It was a promotion the likes of which had never been seen in Liberty.
More than 250 Chick-fil-A fans started lining up outside the restaurant’s door 24 hours in advance of the official opening at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13. Colorful pop-up tents covered the parking lot, and those waiting played games, read or visited to pass the time. The reason for their zeal? A chance to win a year’s worth of free coupons for the chain’s popular chicken sandwiches. Typically as part of its grand-opening celebrations, the restaurant chain gives the first 100 adult customers in line 52 coupons good for one free sandwich every week for a year. This time, though, owner Courtney Mahoney upped that number to 125 because so many people showed up. Those turned away did not go empty handed. They each got 10 free coupons.
