Ford Motor Co.’s Claycomo assembly plant is adding a third production shift to meet “strong demand” for Escape utility vehicles, which are produced by the plant, according to a press release from Ford. The addition of a third shift at the plant will deliver approximately 2,400 additional Escapes and Mariners by the end of October, the release said. However, employment levels at the plant will remain unchanged because the plant will reduce from two shifts to one for production of its pickup truck line. The changes are effective beginning in mid-October. According to figures from Ford, the Escape’s market share is 16 percent in 2009 through July, which is an increase of 2.3 percent compared to 2008 figures.
