A 59-year-old Liberty man was arrested Sept. 22 at Piedmont Triad International Airport in North Carolina for allegedly failing to pay health insurance for his employees.

Pace Airline CEO William Chares Rodgers, 608 Nashua Road, was charged with one count of willful failure to pay group health insurance premiums, according to a press release from the North Carolina Department of Insurance.

Investigators allege that Rodgers knowingly terminated the health care coverage without providing the required 45-day notice to his company’s 337 employees.

A spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division said a meeting with Pace employees was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Winston Salem to gather more information. The charter airline recently suspended operations after losing a maintenance contract with Continental Airlines, according to Internet reports.

Additional charges against Rodgers may be pending, according to the press release from insurance commissioner Wayne Goodwin.

Mr. William C. Rodgers is an evil man that has brought devastation to many families in the Triad area. We believe him to be the devil incarnate.

Not only did he not pay employee health insurance, he has not paid salaries since Aug 9 and went 4 weeks before laying off anyone. He also took insurance premiums for dental, life, and cancer policies out of our wages when he was paying us, but did not pay the insurance companies. These are not covered by the same law as the medical insurance companies, so he has not been charged with this yet.
