HolidayFX will be brightening holiday nights in Liberty and throughout the area for close to 150 homes and businesses this year with lighting and seasonal decorations. This year’s trends include bigger tree decorations and ground lighting, said Daren Moon, co-owner of the company along with Heath Piersel. Moon said the company, which is bonded and insured, meets with each homeowner and business owner at the beginning of the process. “Homeowners often have ideas in mind, and we can provide suggestions,” he said. “We know what looks good.” Moon said people are often looking to go beyond the norm, which he welcomes, including with colored lights. “A house is like a palette,” Moon said. Coloring the palettes of some homes and businesses this year will be environmentally friendly lights. Moon said it can be a good step for people to take. “It’s a bigger up-front investment but the lights use less energy, burn brighter and burn longer,” Moon said. Whatever lights people choose to use, Moon said it’s important to do the job right, citing the risks that come when the proper precautions aren’t taken. The U.S. Consumer Protection Agency agrees, providing suggestions for keeping the season safe. Among them are using only lights that have been tested for safety by a recognized testing laboratory, staying away from power and feeder lines leading from utility poles into older homes and making sure outdoor lights have been certified for outside use. Outdoors and indoors, Moon looks forward to the season each year. “I’m a huge holiday light guy,” he said. “I have a passion for it.” Moon also enjoys seeing the end result, including when parents have their house lit and decorated for their children. “I don’t know if the kids can get any more enjoyment out of it than their parents do,” he said. That gives him great job satisfaction. “When I see homeowners happy, that’s the best thing I can take away from this.” For more information about HolidayFX, visit www.holidayfx.net. STAYING SAFE Additional suggestions for holiday decorations:
- Fasten outdoor lights securely to protect against wind damage. Use only insulated staples or run strings of lights through hooks - Turn off holiday lights when you go to bed or leave the house - Use caution when removing outdoor holiday lights - Outdoor lights and decorations should be plugged into circuits protected by ground fault circuit interrupters to prevent against electrical shock
