Residents are invited to help Historic Downtown Liberty Inc. and the Liberty Community Christmas Tree Program kick off the holiday season with the lighting of the downtown square on Friday, Nov 20.

The event, which will be held on the south lawn of the old Clay County Courthouse, starts at 6 p.m.

As part of the lighting ceremony, spectators will be serenaded with holiday songs sung by students from local elementary schools.

Mayor Greg Canuteson will also recognize winners of the annual coloring contest and Santa Claus will make an appearance.

The program culminates with the flip of a switch that will turn on thousands of lights on the buildings around the square.

City staff and volunteers will also be on hand that night to accept donations to the Christmas tree program. Checks can also be mailed to:

Liberty Community Christmas Tree, Liberty City Hall, 101 E. Kansas St., Liberty, MO 64068.

For more information or to volunteer, call 792-1112 or visit www.ci.liberty.mo.us/LCCT.
