Many Missourians will be traveling over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to make sure their vehicle is in good condition and that they are well rested before getting behind the wheel. Troopers will also be out on the road, enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists. During the 2008 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, 14 persons were killed and another 634 were injured in 1,736 traffic crashes. “I encourage everyone who is traveling this holiday weekend to make safety a part of their plans,” said Colonel James Keathley, superintendent of the patrol. “I urge you to obey all traffic laws, wear your seat belt, pay attention, obey the speed limit and don’t drink and drive.” Motorists are also being reminded of the patrol’s emergency assistance number, 1-800-525-5555 (or *55 on a cellular phone), which can be used to report traffic crashes, crimes and other emergencies.
