Liberty Public Schools is asking patrons for their opinions on what they want to see for the future of education. The district is hosting a series of focus groups to gather information as part of its long-range strategic planning process.
Three sessions were held in June, and two more are scheduled. The next focus groups meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at the Administration Center, 600 Conistor St. Those unable to attend the sessions can also complete an online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/PTKWQSB. So far, 588 people have completed the survey. Superintendent Mike Brewer said the biggest concern expressed is how the district plans to manage growth. Next year, the district anticipates a student enrollment of 11,000, up from 10,400 this year. “We’re picking up that they want us to ensure that we have enough classrooms and adequate facilities to handle the growth,” Brewer said, “and that we continue to offer an exceptional education.” The district will open Liberty North High School in August, and there will soon be need for additional classroom space at the elementary and middle levels, Brewer said. The final results of the strategic planning sessions should be completed and available to the public by October, Brewer said.
