School bells will soon be ringing again, and The Salvation Army will provide supplies to more than 1,000 needy children in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Salvation Army School Supply Drive is under way and will continue through Friday, Aug. 6. Donations may be dropped off at any area Kmart, Krispy Kreme or AMLI residential property. Northland drop-off sites include: • Kmart, 2821 N.E. Vivion Road, Kansas North; • K-Mart, 600 N.E. Barry Road, Kansas City North. All types of school supplies are needed, particularly backpacks, but also three-ring binders, spiral notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, paper, paint, erasers and scissors. “We want every child to be prepared for their first day of school. Many parents struggle financially just to make ends meet on a daily basis, and providing their kids with everything they need to start a new school year is often beyond them, financially,” said Sharon Clay, special events coordinator for The Salvation Army in Kansas City. If you don't have time to shop, send financial donations, earmarked “School Supplies” to 3637 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111.
