There are always some interesting things that happen on the Liberty sports scene that don't make it into the paper.
Many Tuesday and Wednesday games get left behind because of press deadlines. My hope is that I can use this blog to fill in some of the spaces left.
Here's what happened on an interesting Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Liberty High....
Liberty's softball team looked dead in the sixth inning, trailing Lee's Summit 6-0. Teams just don't come back six runs down with only two more chances to hit, right?
The Blue Jays found a way, scoring four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to get a 7-6 win. Senior Laura Kampman had a huge RBI triple down the right-field line in the seventh and junior Taylor Atwood brought her home with an RBI single to tie the game. Senior Bailey Marshall had the game-winning RBI.
After the game, I asked Liberty coach Scott Howard what was the biggest deficit one of his teams had overcome. He knew it right away because it came against the same opponent.
Last year, Liberty trailed Lee's Summit 7-0 and came back to win.

Liberty High's volleyball team struggled without the full services of senior outside hitter Katie Damgar and lost in straight sets to Lee's Summit North.
Damgar was relegated to libero duties because of some back issues and the Blue Jays had difficulties putting points away in a 25-20, 25-18 loss.
