The back-to-school sales are the first sign that fall is just around the corner, and not long after will be the cold winter months. In anticipation of those chilly days, the Northland Needlers Quilting Guild is hosting its 28th annual quilt show entitled “Harvest of Holidays.”

Liberty’s 2010 Dance for the Cure celebration was held Saturday, July 31, at Bennett Park. The annual event raises funds for the nonprofit Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, dedicated to helping find a cure for breast cancer.

Mid-Continent Public Library has hired Steven V.  Potter as the new director of the library system.  Potter officially takes over as the library leader from the retiring Richard Wilding on Sunday, Aug. 1.

State fair pie contest deadline Aug. 2

Peaches, blackberries, apples, blueberry, strawberry and rhubarb, oh my! There’s never a bad time to bake a pie. And if you need an extra incentive, Missouri First Lady Georganne Nixon’s pie contest is just around the corner. The deadline to enter is Monday, Aug. 2.
