The Missouri Department of Transportation has finished the Highway 69 bridges over the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad more than one month ahead of schedule. These are the final bridges scheduled for Clay County to be completed under the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, according to a press release from MoDOT.
Although the bridges are back open to traffic, motorists will experience a left lane closure for both northbound and southbound Highway 69 as crews remove the crossovers and finish pavement markings through the area. This restriction was expected to be in place through Friday, June 22. All work is weather dependent.
The Safe & Sound Program will replace or rehabilitate 802 of Missouri’s worst bridges, 159 of those in the Kansas City District. Ten bridges have been completed in Clay County.
