The Kansas City Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 961,586 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in July, which represents a decrease of 1.8 percent from July 2009.  Passenger boardings at KCI were down 1.4 percent, with a total of 486,227 during July.  For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 2,885,032, an increase of 1.5 percent from the same period last year.

A software update by the Kansas City Information Technology Department will result in some non-emergency software systems at City Hall being temporarily shut down between 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, and 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23. This temporary shutdown will have an impact on several departments and offices, including the city's 3-1-1 Action Center.

Owners of rental dwellings in Kansas City must renew or establish registration of their rental properties with the city's Neighborhood and Community Services Department on an annual basis. Annual registration of rental properties is part of the Rental Registration and Inspection Program that was established by the City Council in October 2007.

The city of Kansas City is issuing a reminder to owners of vacant and foreclosing property located in the city that they must renew or establish registration of these properties with the Neighborhood and Community Services Department on an annual basis. Annual registration of these properties is part of the Registration and Inspection Program established by the City Council in February 2009. The vacant and foreclosing property registration requirements went into effect May 1, 2009.

This environmentally friendly transition will result in a reduction in overhead and human resource costs associated with the handling and storage of more than 15,000 documents annually.

The Kansas City Housing and Community Development Department is now accepting applications from first-time homebuyers for the KC Dream Home Program.

"The KC Dream Home Program is important to the City's overall Housing program," said City Councilwoman Sharon Sanders Brooks. "It provides an opportunity for low- to moderate-income first-time homebuyers to purchase a quality affordable house which helps stabilize neighborhoods in Kansas City."

The Kansas City Public Works Department has announced the cost for excess trash tags will increase from $1 to $2, effective Thursday, July 1. Trash tags purchased prior to July 1 are still valid, and only one is needed per excess trash bag.
