ST. PETERS - It was a day of near-misses in the preliminaries for LIberty's swimming and diving team at the MSHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Rec-Plex on Friday, Feb. 19.
Two of Liberty's relays just missed getting into the championship finals. Both will swim in the consolation finals on Saturday.

Liberty taking plenty of talent to state
Liberty’s girls swimming and diving team is taking one of its deepest squads to state in recent memory.
With strong divers and relays, the Blue Jays hope to improve substantially on last season’s 22nd-place finish last year at the Missouri State Girls Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20 at the Rec-Plex in St. Peters.

Liberty wins four events at conference, takes second behind Blue Springs
Liberty girls swim coach Chris Murphy had some positive vibes going into the Suburban Big Seven Conference meet.
And he didn’t keep them to himself. Even though the Blue Jays’ 200-yard medley relay team was seeded second and the 200 free relay team was seeded third, Murphy thought both would bring home the team’s first conference relay titles since 1996.

Blue Jays will most likely battle for second place
There are some great expectations for Liberty’s swimming and diving team for this weekend’s Suburban Big Seven Conference meet.
The Blue Jays went 5-1 through the conference’s dual meets in the regular season and will have some tough competition for second with Lee’s Summit and Lee’s Summit North when the swimming finals begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Gladstone Community Center.

Blue Jays have the possibility of qualifying four divers for state meet
Two down, two to go.
Liberty High’s divers are trying to pull off an impressive feat. In the history of the Blue Jays’ girls swimming and diving team, only seven divers have ever qualified for the state meet.

Meredith Hughes stood on the diving board with all eyes on her. And she paused ... and she paused ... and she paused some more.
The internal clock in the Liberty High junior’s mind was racing. She knew she didn’t have much time before she had to move. She couldn’t stand there and hope the moment would just pass by.

Cowart wins 200 IM and 100 backstroke
The Park Hill Invitational came better late than never for Liberty’s girls swimming and diving team.
It was held a week later than scheduled because of bad weather. When it was finally held Saturday, Jan. 16, the Blue Jays finished a strong second out of 15 teams at the Park Hill Aquatic Center.

Liberty preparing for big Park Hill Invitational
Liberty’s girls swimming team gets back into action this week with one of the bigger meets of the season.
The Blue Jays will compete in the Park Hill Invitational for the second consecutive season. Head coach Chris Murphy anticipates 15 to 20 teams battling at the Park Hill Aquatics Center at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9. The diving competition is at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8.

Mesha Peterson takes first in diving
In one of the bigger regular season meets of the season, Liberty’s girls swim team stood out from most of the pack.
The Blue Jays placed fifth out of 31 teams at the Independence Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 19, with 173 points.

Liberty gets four state qualifying times in tri-meet
Liberty’s girls swimming and diving team has started the season with a bang — and plenty of state times already in hand.
The Blue Jays improved to 3-0 with a tri-meet victory against St. Joseph Central (215-85) and Raymore-Peculiar (252-55) on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Liberty Community Center.
