Liberty North, Staley, Kearney  and Oak Park in same conference


Quite a few Northland area high school student-athletes will be spending much less time on the bus soon.

In a surprising twist of events, which includes the recent announcement of the consolidation of Hickman Mills and Ruskin high schools, the Suburban Conference has received quite a makeover for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years. And it turns out the Small Six will have some serious Northland flavor.

The year featured many teams that came so close to the state semifinals

 

It was a year of transition in the community and a little bit of frustration for Liberty High athletics.

William Jewell College started its process of breaking away from the NAIA and taking the bold step of becoming an NCAA Division II institution.

School district also names five other positions

 

As with all of the athletic programs at Liberty North, the football team will be built from the ground up.

And the school district has picked someone familiar with that sort of project to be the first football coach at Liberty North.

Liberty graduate Courtney Alexander has found footing after transfer


There are so many moments during the week when Courtney Alexander smiles.

It’s when she takes the soccer field for practice. It’s when she’s in her university’s football stadium singing Garth Brooks’ song Calling Baton Rouge with what she calls 90,000 of “your best friends.” It’s when she’s attending a Fellowship of Christian Athletes function.
