Tom Eisenhauer completed a successful first season at the helm of the William Jewell College track and field program. In his inaugural campaign as the Cardinals’ head coach, Eisenhauer helped guide a handful of athletes to nationals. Five Cards in all earned the right to compete at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on May 27-29 at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind. Sophomore thrower Brittany Riley had the team’s top individual finish, placing 10th in the country in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 155 feet, 3 inches. Sophomore Taylor Cotton placed 26th in the event, but she stands as the current school-record holder in the event (162-9). Another sophomore, Sara Shippy bettered her school record in the 100-meter hurdles (14.88 seconds) but did not qualify for the finals in her event. On the men’s side, sophomore Logan Pettz — the school record holder in the indoor heptathlon — placed 12th in the nation in the decathlon with 6,213 points. Freshman Clint Ederer finished 19th in the nation in the open 400 with a time of 48.95 seconds, and set the school record of 48.1 earlier this season. "These athletes worked very hard to get here, and they represented William Jewell very well," Eisenhauer said in a press release.
