All-conference honors roll in for Cardinals There was no shortage of honors for the William Jewell College athletes this spring. Many Cardinals received recognition for their work by earning awards from the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The following is a list of the recipients in their respective sports. Baseball — The William Jewell baseball team placed seven players on the HAAC all-conference teams. Outfielder Jon Farris and pitcher Jamison Miller were named to the first team. Second baseman Randy Cruz, shortstop Jason DeMore and pitcher Darren O’Brien were named to the second team. Designated hitter Tyler Harrison and first baseman Joe Summers were named to the All-Conference honorable mention team. Softball — Pitcher Amanda Storm and first baseman Lauren Cain were named to the first team. In addition, Storm was awarded the HAAC first team Gold Glove award. Third baseman Taylor Brown and catcher Megan Watkins were named honorable mention. The Cardinals posted a 24-23 overall record this season. Men’s tennis — Senior Cody Pflugradt was named to the first team and junior Chris Dailey was named to the second team. This is the first time in more than 10 years that the HAAC has awarded all-conference honors in tennis and were chosen by a vote of the coaches. Jewell went 9-13 and finished fourth place in the conference. Women’s tennis — Junior Nikki Chambers and sophomore Tanya Ratana were named to the first team. First-year players Carli Bisesi and Jaimie Baker were named to the second team.
